Our initiatives
Financial Centres for Sustainability
Born out of Italy’s G7 Presidency in 2017 and established in mid-2018, the Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) is a global network of 44 financial centres partnering to mobilise finance in support of national sustainability ambitions. FC4S drives systemic market transformation by catalysing collaboration, enabling financial centres to assess and strengthen their sustainable finance ecosystems, and informing policy through practical tools and evidence-based insights.
Why Financial Centres?
Financial centres are of primary importance to the structure, function, and dynamics of the global economy where interlocking financial activities such as banking, capital markets and insurance are concentrated. Through regulatory, coordination and investment channels, financial centres can fundamentally shape the incentives of individual companies to integrate aspects of sustainable development into regular business.
Objective
FC4S aims to enable financial centres to exchange experiences, drive convergence and act on shared priorities to accelerate the expansion of sustainable finance. It is achieved through national and regional initiatives. Tools, frameworks, and insights are provided to support members’ progress as well as undertaking research on emerging issues, providing guidance on best practices, and support for strategy and project development.
Scale
Governance
Day-to-day operations are overseen by a dedicated FC4S secretariat hosted by UNDP’s Sustainable Finance Hub. In addition, co-Chairs, a Steering Committee of FC4S Members, and an Advisory Board guide the activities of the secretariat, provide input into its strategic decisions, ensure coherence in regional and global operations, and maximise the impact of the network.
