ADB and UNDP renew partnership to accelerate sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific by 2030
29 JULY, 2024
New York and Manila, 29 July 2024 - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), two leading international organizations in development policy and finance in Asia and the Pacific, announced a significant enhancement in their collaboration with the renewal of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today. In this critical decade for action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this renewed partnership aims to accelerate progress towards sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific by 2030.
The collaboration will focus on points of acceleration to drive the SDGs by aligning the needs of communities with national and local policy, services and investment choices. Actions will span joint knowledge creation, policy dialogue, technical assistance, and project development across areas such as innovative financing, climate action, sustainable urbanization, rural development, and digital technologies for development.
This renewed blueprint builds on existing initiatives and achievements. Examples include aid monitoring and assessment in Afghanistan, climate change resilience in Papua New Guinea, and inclusive development in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh. Notably, the partnership has also made substantive contributions through the Asia Pacific SDG partnership and joint post disaster needs assessments in emergency settings such as during the floods in Pakistan.
In a region facing multiple shocks, these coordinated efforts will support a range of interventions for countries and communities in need and lay the ground for critical transitions, sustainable development and longer term resilience.
