Scaling Private Finance for Nature Restoration in Ireland
Scaling Private Finance for Nature Restoration in Ireland
08 October, 2026
The Nature Restoration Investment Architecture Programme (NRIAP) was established to better understand whether and how private finance can support nature restoration at scale, alongside public policy and funding.
This report presents the findings from the first phase of the NRIAP. It explores the opportunities and challenges associated with mobilising private finance for nature restoration in Ireland and identifies areas that warrant further investigation. The intention is not to advocate for private finance in all circumstances, but rather to better understand where it may be appropriate, effective and capable of supporting restoration outcomes alongside public investment.
The findings presented in this report are intended to inform the next phase of the NRIAP. They identify areas where further exploration, testing and stakeholder engagement may be required to better understand the conditions under which private finance could support nature restoration in Ireland while maintaining environmental integrity.
